Well, we´re not exactly living the fancy life in Ha'apai anyway, but now we might really have to start living on yam and dogs. (I apologize for digressing a little bit here:)
Yes, they eat dogs here; and cats. We already lost two dogs and one cat to the Tongan cooking pots and even Micky is regularly eyed by the locals who openly tell me that she looks ready to eat. The cats (in Tongan very creatively called "pussi") are mostly turned into soup and Brian had a very delightful encounter with a Tongan girl once who asked him if he wanted to come over to her house one night and eat pussi. Needless to say I interfered...
So, we might have to eat what the bush and the roadkill give us soon as the only remaining inter-island ferry, the Pulupaki, has been deemed unseaworthy and beyond repair a few weeks ago already. Despite a detainment order it still sailed another few times, transporting people and cargo in between the different island groups and this week even towed back the fuel boat that had broken down half way from Fiji into Pangai harbour in Ha'apai. The Pulupaki is the only boat to bring supplies to all the islands and supposedly is out of order until April. Thankfully business wise we´re not dependant on the ferry, so our activities will not be affected at all and we´re looking at some wicked diving next week.
