Island escape

Where to go if you live on a tropical island and need a break? A different island! Not many other options here, so that´s what we did and spent the last weekend on the neighbouring island Uoleva. It has approximately 6 permanend inhabitants (if you don´t count the pigs), who are the owners of the three resorts down there. We stayed at Diana´s Resort, a lovely little place with basic beach huts on what is probably the world´s most beautiful beach. It was really refreshing to get away from the office and the computer, which occupies a lot of our time when we are not out diving. We just hung out on the beach, lazed in a hammock, sipped on some whiskey coconuts, enjoyed Ota Ika (raw fish marinated in lime and coconut juice; my favourite Tongan dish!) and enjoyed the vista.

A picture postcard dream

Diana´s beach fales are the perfect chill-out place.

We also managed to get some dives under our belts and visited some of our favourite dive spots, Fantasia, Magic Reef and the Christmas Reef. The visibility was a stunning 30 meters and we encountered a few Whitetip Reef Sharks, a Turtle, a Napoleon Wrasse, a Sea Snake and lots of colourful reef fish over pristine hard coral.

Our special little friend at Fantasia: a rare Longnose Hawkfish

Perfect hunter: a Whitetip Reef Shark.

What else could have prepared us better to return to the office on Monday morning?
